Role
At Hive Robotics, you will join our Communications team to develop next-generation software-defined radio (SDR) systems for our unmanned platforms, including aerial, ground, and maritime robots.
You will take projects from concept and architecture through to production, contributing to both hardware and software design, and ensuring reliable, high-performance wireless links in complex operational environments.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement custom SDR solutions, including both hardware (FPGA/SoC) and software components.
  • Apply expertise in beamforming, filtering, and signal processing techniques on high-performance embedded platforms.
  • Develop and optimize Physical (PHY) and Data Link Layer implementations for robust wireless communication.
  • Program and integrate FPGA logic, including ADC/DAC interfaces for RF front-ends.
  • Collaborate closely with software and system engineers to ensure hardware–firmware compatibility and end-to-end communication performance.
  • Support make-or-buy evaluations and participate in supplier coordination for electronic subsystems.
  • Contribute to testing, validation, and documentation throughout the SDR development lifecycle.
Requirements
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Communications Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in SDR, modem, or telecommunication systems development.
  • Proven experience in FPGA design and high-speed digital/RF integration.
  • Strong understanding of signal processing, PHY/Datalink layers, and wireless communication architectures.
  • Proficient in Linux, C/C++, Python, and version control tools (Git).
  • Experience with API development, distributed systems, and cross-domain hardware–software integration.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic hardware testing, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and RF measurement setups.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (German is a plus).
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Munich.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with robotic systems (UAVs, UGVs, or maritime platforms).
  • Familiarity with EMC, environmental, or reliability testing standards.
  • Background in cryptography, secure communications, or network layer protocols.
  • Practical experience or hobby background as an RC/drone pilot.
  • Experience in international or interdisciplinary R&D environments.
