Lead Mechanical Engineer

Hive Robotics is building next-generation autonomous robotic systems which is robust, modular, and built for real-world environments. We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design and integration of our electronic hardware portfolio, from rapid prototypes to field-ready serial production in mass quantities.

You will lead the mechanical and integration design of all electronic and electromechanical components at Hive Robotics—communication modules, autopilot hardware, GNSS systems, antenna designs, ground-station devices, and more.
You’ll work across design, prototyping, testing, and production to ensure our hardware is robust, scalable, and seamlessly integrated into customer robotic platforms.

Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical design and integration of electronic components across our hardware portfolio
Move products from concept to prototype to serial production
Define materials, architectures, and build a robust supply chain for mechanical and electronic parts
Support and lead core/non-core and make/buy decisions in the mechanical field
Establish a robust supply-chain
Oversee hardware bring-up, environmental & thermal testing, and regulatory compliance (e.g., CE, EMC)
Design and supervise integration into customer robots (drones, UGVs, maritime systems, etc.)
Create and maintain test setups, fixtures, and validation procedures
Collaborate closely with electronic, electrical, and manufacturing partners
Document designs, tests, and production workflows with high clarity

Requirements

Master’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or mechatronics engineering
5+ years in mechatronics, hardware prototyping, or industrialization (robotics, automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, etc.)
Strong experience in environmental, thermal, connector, and ruggedized design
Expert in testing equipment, field testing, and fast design iteration
Hands-on proficiency with prototyping: machining, 3D printing, rapid fabrication
Excellent CAD proficiency (Fusion360, CATIA, NX, or similar)
Practical experience with electronics testing tools (oscilloscopes, harnessing, board bring-up)
Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Fluent German and strong English
Willing to relocate to Munich

Bonus Points

Experience with robotic systems (UAVs, UGVs, maritime platforms)
RC/drone pilot or hobby robotics background
Knowledge of EMC, reliability, environmental testing standards
Experience with international suppliers or industrial partners
Basic software/scripting experience for testing or data logging
